Client Tips

Spending the time to complete simple jobs in the winter can reduce or eliminate expensive repairs down the road. Take a minute to read the following tips to enhance your comfort, increase your home’s energy efficiency, and reduce future repairs.
1. Monitor your basement’s humidity and avoid low relative humidity levels. Use a humidifier to maintain safe relative humidity levels.
2. Examine your attic for frost accumulation. Check your roof for icicles or ice dams.
3. Vacuum your smoke and fire detectors—dust and spiderwebs can prevent proper functioning.
4. Check the electrical cords, outlets, and plugs on all indoor and outdoor seasonal lights to ensure fire safety. Replace them immediately if they are worn or feel warm to the touch.
5. Clean your humidifier two or three times during the winter season.
6. Examine your doors and windows for ice accumulation or cold air leaks. If you discover any issues, make a note to replace or repair the relevant window or door in the spring.
